NIB Biotec for Innovation in Public Health in Africa
NIB Biotec will participate in the Hybrid Workshop on Public Health Innovations, which will be held in Pretoria on 3 December, contributing to the implementation of theAU-EU Innovation Agenda.
This event represents an important opportunity to discuss and promote crucial innovations in the field of public health.
What is the AU-EU Innovation Agenda?
TheAU-EU Innovation Agenda is a joint initiative between the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) that aims to strengthen cooperation in research and innovation (R&I) between the two continents. The main objective is to translate research and innovation into tangible socio-economic impacts, such as products, services, businesses and jobs.
This agenda focuses on four priority areas:
- Public health: Improving the health and well-being of populations through medical and healthcare innovations.
- Green transition: Promote sustainable technologies and practices to address climate change.
- Innovation and Technology: Support technological development and innovation to stimulate economic growth.
- Ability for Science: Strengthen scientific and technological skills through training and collaboration.
NIB Biotec's Commitment
NIB Biotec is engaged in the development of a rapid test for prostate cancer. This test aims to decentralize screening, making it accessible to everyone.
This is especially crucial for Africa, a continent that is expected to see a rapid increase in prostate cancer cases in the coming years due to rising life expectancy. Currently, there is no organized path for prostate cancer screening in the world and this will certainly have an important impact, especially in Africa, with a probable exponential increase in mortality from this disease.
Being able to help address this potential future problem is a great source of pride for our company. Participation in the workshop will allow us to collaborate with other innovators and make a significant breakthrough in public health.
